The Brass Band

We have an idea that we may be the only Methodist Church in the UK with a brass band. In 2010 the band will be celebrating its 50th anniversary year. Some of the band members who attended the first ever band practice are still active instrumentalists in the band.
Back in 1960 the band was formed by a small group of men who had the chance to get their hands on old brass instruments that local colliery bands had thrown out. They formed a chapel band with the aim of witnessing and serving the community.
Over the years, hundreds of people have learned to read music and produce a passable sound on their instruments. Thousands of concerts have been given - mainly in the County Durham area but occasionally further afield and even as far away as Cliff College near Chesterfield.
